So glad to be back in Jonesboro.  I love going home and visitng family but once you’ve been on your own for a while you get used to it.  I had a great Christmas and break.   School this semester is going to be difficult, but I think this maybe my last spring semester.  Over break I looked at my schedule and it looks like I will be able to graduate this December which I am exteremly excited about.  I am taking Biology of Plants, Physics I, Quantitative analysis, and PE we will see how this goes.  I made Dean’s list this past semester and was estatic, and am currently studying to take the MCAT January 30…two weeks and very nervous, but excited at the same time.  I hope to do well enough the first time so not to have to take it over again.  Well I better go study.

This semester

I’m sorry it’s been so long since my last post. It has been a crazy semester, crazy in a good and bad way. I’ve made so many new friends and have been trying to balance my academic life with a social life, which can be hard at times, but I’m slowly starting to learn. Its funny because when I first started school, I tried to make it solely as social event, which didn’t end well academically then I decided I should only focus on class work and that didnt end well academically or socially. I then realized that its true what they say college is just not about the courses you take or the parties you go to but both. I’m starting to learn the perfect formula for fun and studies. I’m very thankful tho for thanksgiving break. It has given me time to relax with friends from home and family while also allowing me time to catch up in classes and study ahead for up coming finals. To me it seems like the stress of finals eases some when you have a stress relieving break just before hand when you can study a little each day and not have to go to class first. Unfortunatly, it makes going back to school a little harder. I’m typically in the swing of things and have my schedule down pat by Thanksgiving, which then going home to Dallas throws off my study groove but I usually recover in a day or two just in time to get on my grind for exams. So then I can pass all my exams and make it a better christmas!!! well I hope everyone had a great break.

Summer

October 10, 2009 by ciniminswirl13

So its been a busy week with midterms, but they all went well and I’m done with test for almost a week, biology on friday :( .  But this is my first weekend to just chill not having to cram for an exam since school started back so I’m going to celebrate by going to see Toy Story I and II in 3D  with some good friends and can’t wait.   I haven’t been this excited to see a movie in a while, even if some think I’,m too old too see an animated movie.  But diseny is timeless right? lol anyway so earlier this week I was talking to a friend about my summer and decided to blog some about it..so here it goes.

I spent this summer in Boston, MA  (a very cool place, a must see in my opionin) interning at Harvard Medical School.  Def. one of the best summers I had, minus the weather it was cold and raining. However, I met so many new people that will be great connections to have when I begin my next leg of my journey which is coming up soon, (MCAT, GRE, Med school apps, Grad. apps you get the picture). Anyway my friend spent the summer interning at Childrens in little rock and we were comparing experineces.  Mine was more research based and hers focused on clinicals.  She was able to work one on one with doctors and patients which is great because she wants to go to medical school.  I did cancer research looking at a breast cancer cell line that is claimed to be resistant to one of the drugs claimed to treat it.  Me being the person that I am kept killing the cells and then they came back to life just intime to be killed again lol  I don’t know how I did it but I learned so many techniques such as staining nuclei, microscopy, timelapse, mainting a cell line, etc.  I tell everyone in any major that they should do atleast 1 internship before they graduate no matter where they end up doing it at.  I was fortunate to be able to work at Harvard but my passion for research was discovered right here at Arkansas State when I spent the summer between my freshman and sophmore year doing a RISE internship.  It continued over and I transfered and have had the priveladge of working with both Dr. Ellis Benjamin and Dr. Earl Benjamin.  but thats for a different time.

got to run and get ready for the movies.

Till next time

This is my first blog ever so I hope it’s ok. It’s been a busy week as always. I’m a chemistry major at Arkansas State University so there is always something keeping me busy. I had a test in almost every class but now that they are done I can take a huge breath. *SIGH* Now I’m in Alabama with some of my lab mates . We are working on a collaboration with a professor down here. It’s been fun but its time to study!

Till next time
